Here are the specs I had picked out as of about 2 weeks ago, I've looked at a lot of different articles and such but I'd like to get user inputs on it. Please only let me know about actual USER complications or good things about these specifics. Don't tell me you don't like this company or that. I picked companies by what I have found to be good in the past. (All links are to the newegg website since that is where I plan to buy from, if you know of better prices ONLY link if you know it is a reputable company that you have used many times, lots of ripoff artists out there and I don't play with my money).
L&C power supply will probably die before the computer runs its course. Antec or Enermax are better bets. just my $0.02. (and maybe something most people wouldn't notice)
I'd keep it until it died and get a new one then. lol Pow supps are cheap at newegg and so I'd probably get an antec or enermax then. Thanks for the insight though.
Are you planning to take this to LAN games? That top-connection pod for headphone and USB would be pretty damn handy if you keep your tower on the floor at home, but would be a real pain in the ass on the tables at a LAN Convention unless you got some really long cables.
Also, have you ruled out Socket 939 because of the price? Just curious, price is certainly a very valid concern, I was just wondering since 754 seems to be going away.
In reply to spam, #4: yep it doesnt really matter that 754 is dissapearing as normally when you do anything like a cpu upgrade you normally replace the whole lot... i would go for 939 as 754 can only use ram in single channel which will make it slower to load things.. the asus a8v wifi edition is only 95$ on there for some wierd reason (i can only assusme newegg are idiots as its $40 cheaper than the non wifi version either that or im missing something) this of course means you will need to change ur processor aswell and the prices seem to go rediculously high then
Totally agree, the amprage on the +12V rail is a little low. If i were to estimate the actual power output on a PSU like that, id say it would be closer to 400 or so, not the 500 its rated at. Hell my Antec 350Watt has 18A on the 12V rail. I swear by antec powersupplies, when i upgrade my PSU im going for that Neo Power they have, now that thing is sweet.
Oh and 50A on a 5V rail is ludicrously high, i would advise against that, too much amprage on a rail can produce additional unneeded current to your HDD and Optical drives, normally shortening the life of them.
Not to flog an already beaten and dead horse, but on the power supply front I've seen a 400watt with far fewer molex connectors (we're talking around 4 total) than my 380 truepower Antec. This is definitely something to be wary of. If the power supply will not allow you to connect many extras, if any, then it may very well cause you problems, let alone provide unreliable voltage. The bitchy thing about a bad PSU is its ability to destroy a motherboard. We had a PSU at work blow out two motherboards before we replaced it with an Antec.
as much as I love antec, are there no other enermax fans? my little enermax gold is on its 3rd mobo/processor (in terms of straight up upgrading, nothing has died).
Save yourself some money and just buy the 64 3000+ There is little to no noticable difference between the 3000 and 3200. I have a 3000 runs just as good and it was cheaper.
Yeah man, looks good. One thing you might want to do is change the Antec trueblue to just a reg truepower if you're going to leave your PC on all night. Just because blue LEDs can be annoying, and i don't think you can turn them off. Of course, that might be what you want. And what's your graphics card? Is it PCI-express?
As I mentioned in my first post my graphics card is a Radeon 9800 Pro. I can't see dishing out the extra $$ for a new PCI express right now. Maybe for my birthday or something. I'm happy with this one for now. As for the LEDs, our computer room is our spare bedroom so the LEDs aren't a problem. My current computer has them as well. Here's a rather blurry awful old photo of my current machine: Tower
Then you could have a problem - that motherboard only supports PCI express so it won't run your AGP Radeon card. You could be graphics-less for a while until you get one.
Radeon is at the top of its game right now, I would try to stay with them personally. If you plan on getting the next generation high end computer games you should go with the SAPPHIRE ATI Radeon X700 PRO. If you think you can wait go ahead and get a cheaper one.
Like I said, if you want to be ready for the next Gen games you sould spend the little extra, if you have it to spend. Other wise you should get that one. It will run games any were from excelant to well for a few years. Unless we see a jump in graphics, like we have recently, again.
